A cookie is a small text file that can be stored on your computer, phone or tablet when you visit websites on the internet.
Cookies have many uses, but they are basically used to store information about users' visiting behavior on the website or to ensure that a page or solution works technically. Cookies help, among other things, to analyze how the website is used, so that the web editors can improve the user experience. In several cases, cookies may be necessary to provide a service.
Cookies are sent back and forth between your browser and a web server and can, for example, tell:
- Whether you are logged in
- Which municipality you should see information from
- How you click around the website.
However, cookies cannot see who you are, what your name is, where you live, or whether your computer, phone or tablet is used by one or more people. Cookies cannot spread computer viruses or other harmful programs either.
